If you didn't know, New York is one of the best places for culturing one's self.
Between art galleries & exhibits, the theater, museums, concerts, the ballet, operas, symphonies, fashion, and more of the same... Culture out the wazoo.
And in the summer especially, New Yorkers get blessed with the option of about a million FREE exciting events.
The hippiest of hipsters, the old fogies, students, young professionals, tourists, the rich and the poor alike all jump at the chance for free tickets to Shakespeare in the Park.
People camp outside the theater (located in Central Park) and enter the virtual and real-life lotteries to win. Only the most fancy and connected people have predetermined seats each year and the rest of us fight and claw to the death at the chance to see just one performance in our New York lifetime.
I, along with almost all of my friends, have spent our summers entering the virtual line to no avail. This year, after 5 summers of trying, my Lu finally won 2 tickets for the summer's first show, "As You Like It."
And she invited MEEE!!!
We were doubly lucky in that this play happened to be Shakespeare's one and only musical-romantic-comedy of sorts. Can I just say, that IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! The music was unbelievable and the weather was perfect. I had never realized that the theater was right in front of the Belvedere Castle and that watching the sun set over the park and castle in the distance could be so magical!I wish every summer night was like this night.
I am gushing and babbling like an idiot, but Laura wrote a actual read-worthy post on it HERE.
No pictures were allowed in the theater, but I snuck a few - hence the poor quality.
My girlfriends and I love to match.
To be or not to be mint green?
To be.
"All the world's a stage..."
and this picture does that stage no justice. Whatsoever.
So glad Laura won the golden ticket!
And so SO glad that I could be her Grandpa Joe!
Thanks Lu!
Still SO much summer to catch up on...
Love,
~Kare*
