Back to the Bloggity Blog

Guys, I've been the worst blogger in the history of blogging, but this time it's actually because I've been busy, busy. Out and about? Me? Shocking, I know. I've been to Utah, to Virginia, and all around town.

Above is a picture of the girls and I seeing Drive one Sunday before the typical Shake Shack outing. Best part of the outing, other than staring at Ryan Gosling's face on the big screen, was after the movie when we were slowly filing out of the theater and Sandra heard an old man say to his wife, "That kid's going to be a big star someday. His career is about to take off!"

Then we headed for the Shack and spotted a guy from Yelzie's online dating past and maybe stalked him and giggled until finally Yelz broke up with us and took the westward way around the block and met us a block away in the other direction. Such a girly sex in the city moment!

Juney has a Birthday!

We had a girls night out for June-Bug's birthday this year. Weird, right? Not at all. We ALWAYS have a GNO for her bday! Because, well, I dont know anyone who makes such GREAT girl friends as Judy... other than myself! Here are the pics from the night of dining out, and dancing (although I didnt make it to club Griffin or The Boom-Boom Room... I started crashing around 1AM).
This is how you get away with riding 5 girls in a cab. We're sneaky aren't we? Shhh... Don't tell our cabbie!
We tried out a place in the meatpacking district that one of my patients owns called MPD. It was fancy, and crowded, and very house-y. We were a bit overwhelmed with the sea of 30 & 40yr olds dancing on their dinner tables and practically swinging from the chandeliers, but it made me happy each time they brought out a bottle of champagne to a table with sparklers flying from the neck. And what are the chances that my patient and his wife are there one the one Saturday that I happen to pop in? Well, they were. He definitely didn't recognize me out of my scrubs, but I still had to say hello.

MPD

By the way, the color scheme was 100% unplanned.
Unbelievable, but believe it. Great minds think alike!

I love this girl so much! Her birthday is just another excuse to celebrate her, but I adore her EVERYday!

A real life conversation with Diddz...

This convo took place over the phone:

Diddy: (Some snide, smart-aleck, & hurtful comment)
Me: (Nothing - silence)
Diddz: What? (Snappy)
Me: I didnt say anything.
Diddz: It's the way you said nothing....

Talk about a bully!

Dont worry, I will later get her back with the help of Yelz and bright colored nail polish.

Hamps continued.

Please take note of my use of the new, trendy, abreve, "Hamps"*
It's what all the cool Hamps-goers are calling it.

Word of the trip - Hamptonsy (say that three times fast... tricky, right?)
I'll use it in a sentence: "This fedora is very Hamptonsy!"

Phrase of the trip - "On the double!"
I'll use it in a reference: "Cabbie, take me to the Jitney. On the double."
(How we should have used it: "Boys, feed me. On the double.")

Expression of the trip (Really there's no difference between a phrase and an expression, but who's paying attention?) - "Hint o' ___"
I'll use it in an expression: "This guac is best with the hint o' lime chips."
Also: "Guys like girls with a hint o' crazy."

Highlight of the trip - Me dropping the bomb to the boys that I don't drink. Doesn't sound particularly funny... trust me, it was quite the scenario to say the least. Let's just say, I've got amazing timing.

Mammal of the trip - Yelz. See video.

Entertainment of the trip - Boys. See other video.

Need I say more?

Never Forget

I'll never forget sitting in Mr. Clark's Chemistry class 10yrs ago when an office administrator came in with a note and a concerned whisper for Mr. Clark. It seemed so strange, but when we questioned him he casually said, "A plane has hit one of the twin towers in New York City, but everything should be fine; this has happened before."
By the time I made it out of that 5th period class (really like 3rd period) the twin tower had been hit and the buildings were both coming down. Before the bell could ring for my intimate 7th period vocal ensemble class, the Pentagon had been hit. We found this out by walking into our choir room (which was a converted/shared art room for the time being) to see our very stoic, and frankly abrasive, teacher sitting in the dark with the TV on crying silently. This was so out of character for Mr. Barrack that we were too shocked to speak upon entering the room. We came in one by one and sat along side him until the chairs were full and a few minutes after the bell rang, Mr. B stood up, raised his arms, and began leading us in our coincidentally pre-rehearsed rendition of America the Beautiful. There wasn't a dry eye in the class. The emotions were high in this silent then suddenly harmonious moment and our unity as a class let alone a nation was palpable. He finished conducting and we went right back to watching the television. Still no one had spoken. Slowly, after getting all the details, people were becoming very concerned about friends and relatives who were working in DC at the Pentagon so calls were made and people were leaving school early.
Even having no ties to NYC or the Pentagon, I remember how emotional this day was for me and I could have never EVER imagined what it would mean to me, now, 10yrs later, living in this great city. Since my time here in NYC (I'm now on my 5th year), I have first hand encountered the beauty, strength, and brotherhood that this nation, and particularly this great city, has to offer.
We will never forget.

Here I am!!!

Guys, I'm not dead. I'm just boring.

The following is an exact (and embarrassing on multiple levels) text message with a beautiful typo from Yelzy-pants re: my watching of the Showtime hit, Dexter (aka Dex).
The reason that I haven't been blogging is that... well... I've had no life for the past two weeks. My Diddy and my Laura were in Peru, Yelz was in Cali, and birthday girl, June-Bug was a roadtrippin' travelin' machine! So I've been sitting here, in my undies, watching Dexter and Breaking Bad and baking tons of cookies (& brownies... shhhh!) to eat my feelings of emotional distress whilst girlfriend-less.

Here's what I've been up to:
~I've been loving my new iPhone and instagram; although I haven't posted any of my own pics yet, just gawked at others.

~Getting in touch with an old high school bestie that makes me want to sing Dixie Chicks' 'Goodbye Earl' til I'm blue in the face.

~I've decided that I could never be a successful serial killer like my vigilante friend Dexter Morgan, because, well, my hair sheds too much. DNA damnit.

~Not going to the US Open as originally planned due to rain delays/cancellations.

~I've had some fantastic jewelry design ideas a brewing. One day that will mean something... I hope.

~I had an amazing dream that involved my gf Whitney Paige's little girl, Taylor, getting upset with Justin Timberlake and angrily insulting him by shouting "You are the duke of New Jersey!" I dont know what it means, but I laugh. EV.ERY.TIME!

~I went grocery shopping for the first time in 50 years... approximately.

~I'm getting excited about my visit to see Bri-Biddy, just a week away now!

~NY's fashion week went on. That's all. I haven't passed any tests to get into the tents (wink:wink) so I just observed from the far distance of E! News and the safe confines of my couch, but my hairdresser (on fire) went! Lucky girl... Betsy Johnson, 2nd Row.

And now I tell the story of a rebellious tween me, sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night to watch none other than.... dun, dun, DUUUN... FASHION TRANCE! (AH! Risky :pronounced RISK-AY:! Gasp!) I had the option of watching 3AM HBO, but would instead opt for the Style Network which, at the time, played fashion show after fashion show under house music with NO commentary and called it, 'Fashion Trance'. This was back in the day. A time when MTV still showed music videos and the days before STYLE became home makeovers & 'How do I look'. I would just watch and watch and watch and think crative, happy thoughts til my eyes couldnt stay opened any longer. One thing I LOVED and anticipated was seeing cancer survivor and fashion designer Betsy Johnson's crazy orange & pink hair extensions flip as she would cartwheel down the runway after the final promenade of her shows. What I wouldn't do to see all those things in person someday! What I'm saying is if you feel the same way, read my hairdresser's blog and you'll be a huge jelly-bird, but also kind of feel like you were there watching and didn't miss a thing. Living the experience vicariously will hold me over... for now at least.

~Also, the tenth anniversary of 9/11 happened.
This is last, not because it's least important, but because I feel like it really deserves a post all it's own. And so it shall be! (I say as I slam by scepter to the ground causing the court jester to jolt and immediately go from a highly frightened state to a silly-wim, wiggly dance move).

Love,
~Kare*

P.S. Don't worry, the girls are back on the block and ready to rock y'all!

Goodbye Summer

I'm back to working Fridays.
Which means...
Summer is officially over.
(My view of Central Park from my operatory)

Summer, please don't go. I have separation anxiety.
Just know that you'll be missed. A lot.
